New Childcare Facilities

Posted on Updated on

A superb childcare facility is set to be unveiled on Monday when
Mini-Mi’s opens its doors for the new pre-school year.

This development is in direct response  to the identification of fully resourced childcare facilities as a critical need within our community.

We have a top-class national school and an excellent secondary school in Balla.  We also have a small preschool operating very successfully in Balla but accommodation has been limited to 22 children and it is estimated that demand will be significantly higher than this over the next few years.

The Management Committee of Balla CRD decided that a ‘state of the art’ childcare facilities would be available in  Balla Community Resource Centre from this September to accommodate up to 60 children in playschool and they are also very committed to the re-establishment of the after-school care facility.

We are really excited about this expansion and we know it will be of immense benefit to the town of Balla and the wider community for many years to come.

Automated External Defibrillators

Training Opportunities

Compliments to Balla CRD who recently took the first step and coordinated an important community initiative.

The public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machines needed updating and with monies from community fundraising, donations from Mayo County Council, Balla Community Council, Balla GAA Club and Balla CRD the cost of over €2000 for updating the machines was raised.

It goes to show that great achievements can happen when a community works together.

The public access AEDs are strategically placed at the community centre and the community rooms.

The AED machines are a piece of lifesaving equipment essential in the chain of survival from once a cardiac emergency occurs.

To further enhance the chain of survival we are asking for community members to come forward and train in CPR.

Learning CPR will give you the confidence to react appropriately in the case of a cardiac arrest – we never know where we may need this skill.
