Grandparents’ Day in Knock

Posted on

Grandchildren across Ireland are being encouraged to pen a special prayer to celebrate their grandparents ahead of this year’s National Grandparents’ Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine.

The annual pilgrimage, now in its ninth year, brings thousands of grandparents and their families to Knock Shrine every September to celebrate the unique and important role grandparents play in providing spiritual guidance and passing on their faith to their grandchildren.

The chief celebrant at this year’s pilgrimage is Bishop Brendan Leahy, Bishop of Limerick.

Children are being invited to compose a prayer for their grandparents and the prayers will be blessed at the pilgrimage.

The organisers are asking that the prayers be sent to the Catholic Grandparents Association by email to info@catholicgrandparentsassociation.com

or by post to Castlebar Street, Westport, Co Mayo.

Anointing of the sick takes place at 2.30pm

with the main pilgrimage Mass at 3pm, followed by the Rosary.

The Catholic Grandparents Association was founded

by Castlebar native and grandmother of 10, Catherine Wiley
